World Ocean Day 2022: Why is World Ocean Day celebrated, what is the theme of this time?
The first World Oceans Day was celebrated in the year 2009 with the theme 'Our Oceans, Our Responsibility'.
The main reason for celebrating this day is to throw light on the topics of biodiversity, food security, ecological balance, climate change, indiscriminate use of marine resources etc. and to create awareness about the benefits of sea in human life.
Oceans Day was first proposed on 8 June 1992 at the Global Forum in Rio de Janeiro.
However in 2008 the United Nations General Assembly resolved that 8 June would be designated as 'World Ocean Day' by the United Nations.
After this, the first World Ocean Day was celebrated in the year 2009 with the theme 'Our Oceans, Our Responsibility'.
The purpose of celebrating this day is to inform and educate the public about the impact of human actions on the oceans,
To develop a worldwide movement of citizens and to unite the world's population on a project for the sustainable management of the world's oceans.
The theme of 2022 is Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean.
