NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Hoping to place a dent within the metropolis’s rampant gun violence, New Orleans metropolis councilman Freddie King III and others hosted a citywide firearm buy-back occasion Saturday (Aug. 13) at St. Stephen’s Baptist Church in Algiers.
Residents lined as much as alternate dozens of handguns and rifles in an effort to get weapons off the road and scale back crime. Those that surrendered a weapon got pre-loaded money present playing cards that can be utilized anyplace credit score and debit playing cards are accepted.
King stated the objective is to assist scale back violent crime by shopping for weapons again from residents with no judgment and no questions requested. King stated he is aware of New Orleans residents are fed up with the violence, and that the issue stretches far past his district spanning Algiers to the French Quarter and Marigny.
“It’s not simply Algiers. It’s not simply District C. It’s not simply the West Financial institution,” King stated. “It’s your complete metropolis. And we’re simply attempting to do our small a part of getting weapons off the road.”
