16-year-old best man dies in Fayette County crash on the way to wedding

SALTLICK TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) — A neighborhood is mourning a 16-year-old boy who died in a crash over the weekend in Fayette County.  

The crash happened on Indian Creek Valley Road in Saltlick Township on Saturday, and the Fayette County coroner recognized the sufferer as Tyler Nicholson.  

State police say 19-year-old Ryan Leighty was driving a Ford Mustang with Nicholson as his passenger when their automobile hit one other automobile turning onto Calvary Church Highway. Nicholson was pronounced lifeless on the scene.  

The coroner stated neither teen was sporting a seatbelt and the automobile didn’t have an airbag system.

Nicholson’s relations informed KDKA-TV on Monday that Leighty was driving to his wedding ceremony when the crash occurred. Nicholson was speculated to be one of the best man.  

“He went to the automobile wash to get the automobile washed to take photos after the marriage,” stated Shelby Leighty, Nicholson’s girlfriend.  

A memorial on the crash scene has flowers, balloons and photos of Nicholson. Some pals gathered across the memorial on Monday afternoon.  

“He was solely 16 years previous. It wasn’t his time, however God needed it to be and wanted him up there greater than we wanted him down right here,” Shelby Leighty stated.  

“(Nicholson) was very, very compassionate for different individuals,” stated Caleb Russell, Nicholson’s good friend. 

Many stated they’re nonetheless in shock by what occurred.

Police stated Ryan Leighty was flown to an area hospital the day of the crash. Associates informed KDKA-TV that he is recovering. 

The motive force of the opposite automobile was taken to an area hospital by ambulance. There is no replace on his situation.  

State police stated the investigation is ongoing. To this point, no expenses have been filed.  

Funeral preparations for Nicholson are being dealt with by Vito Martucci Funeral House in Connellsville.
